| The first King of Norway in modern times was named Haakon VII. King Haakon VII was a Danish prince who was elected King of Norway in 1905, the year the alliance between Sweden and Norway broke down. King Haakon VII married a British princess named Maud. King Haakon VII and Queen Maud had a son named Olav, born in 1903. Olav V became King of Norway in 1957, the year King Haakon VII died. King Olav V married Swedish Princess Märtha, but Märtha died before Olav V became King of Norway. King Olav V and Märtha had a son named Harald and two daughters named Langnehild and Astrid. King Harald V became King of Norway in 1991, following the death of King Olav V. King Harald V married Sonja and she became Queen of Norway. King Harald V and Queen Sonja had a daughter, Mártha Louise, and a son, Haakon Magnus. Princess Mártha Louise was born in 1971, and Prince Haakon Magnus was born in 1973. Crown Prince Magnus married Mette-Marit, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra was born in 2004, followed by Prince Sverre Magnus in 2005. (Related site) |
