Sverd i fjell literally means Swords in the Mountains and refers to three swords embedded in the rock. Sverd i fjell is a monument located in the Stavanger region of Rogaland County, Norway. Sverd i fjell was created by Fritz Røed, a sculptor from Bryne. Sverd i fjell consists of three bronze swords, approximately 10 meters in height, embedded in the rock of a small hill next to Hafrsfjord. Sverd i fjell commemorates the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872. Sverd i fjell symbolizes the victorious King Harald with the largest sword and the defeated kings with the two smaller swords. |
